We’ve been safe at home all year and we’ve had a lot of time to look around and see all the things that need upgrading and fixing around our homes. As the holiday season approaches, now is the time to get started on that home improvement to-do-list. Though some of us won’t be able to see all of the family members we usually do, due to travel restrictions or safety concerns, it doesn’t mean we can’t still get ready for the holiday season!
Getting into the holiday spirit: Our to-do-list
Upgrade Kitchen Appliances
Appliances are home investments that come with a finite lifespan. Fridges usually last about 13 years, dishwashers for about 9 years. If your appliances have been acting up and spazzing out, remember the 50/50 rule, if it costs half as much to repair as it would to replace it, then you should replace it. Upgrading your appliance to a newer model can save you headaches and money in the long run.
Upgrade Your Countertops
The holiday season is a true test for the durability of your countertops. Between all the prepping and cooking that will be done, you’ll be wiping down this surface a hundred times before the new year. If your countertops are worn, chipped or cracked, it might be time for an upgrade. Other rooms in your home could be spruced up by simply replacing the countertops too. If you’re expecting guests, it’s a quick way to freshen up the look and feel of any room. Want our advice? Granite or Quartz countertops are popular for being durable and can last for decades. The best part is that it’s super easy to wipe the surface clean.
With all the cooking and moving around that usually takes place during the holiday season, an organized kitchen will make all the difference when it comes to preparing meals. Ample cabinetry, state-of-the-art drawer systems, and slide out or stand-alone pantries can decrease the time it takes to look for the right pots, pans, utensils, and ingredients.
Here’s something that’s easy to forget, our floors! As the family starts to arrive, our floors see a lot of foot traffic. You should have flooring that can handle the strain and still look great! Dirty or old floors can make any room look drab and doesn’t scream “Happy Holidays!”. Even if you don’t upgrade your flooring, try giving them a polish.
This holiday season will no doubt be different compared to the years before, we encourage you all to embrace the change, be safe and start new traditions.
